A great working group has emerged from a meeting (4/8/04) convened by
Lue Her at Ready 4 K. Over 25 persons attended from groups serving
youth. We invite you to join the next meeting which will be an Open
Space meeting structured around breakout sessions on sub topics emerging
from the focus on School Readiness (birth through five).

Come join colleagues from programs such as Head Start, Portico,
Minnesota Literacy Council, St Paul Schools, Non Profits, child care and
day care networks, school and public health nurses, alliance of early
childhood professionals, Ramsey County Children's Mental Health and
others.

Issues discussed at the first meeting include health & mental health
screenings, respiratory illnesses in young children (asthma), head start
referrals, putting together a directory of resources, advocacy,
preventing delinquency, helping newcomers access health insurance, early
childhood interventions.

This was a great networking and identifying key resources.

My thanks to Lue Her for his leadership in pulling such a rich network
together. As Todd Otis, executive director of Ready 4 K said, "This is a
teachable moment."

Sincerely,

Dear Colleagues,

It was great to have each and every one of you there at our meeting. As I
promised, I am attaching a contact list and a compiled list of
organizational strengths and challenges. I will email all of you minutes
as they become available next week. A reminder that we will meet on the
29th of April from 10:00am to 12:00pm. I am still working on space
availability and will confirm as soon as possible. Please feel free to
distribute this email to folks you feel could use this information. I have
invited Dr. Mark Pfeiffer of the Hmong Cultural Center and Tom Fitzpatrick
of the MN Humanities Commission to join us on that day. I am also planning
to see if I can work our some health related resources to join us.

I look forward to your participation at our next gathering.
