Sexual violence is a topic that is both serious and unheard of in the Asian community. Especially since the culture fosters a group mentality, it is difficult to speak about something so private. Many people aren’t aware of what sexual violence is and that it can occur in their community. Furthermore, those who have been affected by it are isolated and don’t know what resources are available to them. What About Us wants to change that, by providing information, empowering Asian girls and women, and providing a forum for teenagers to speak up and speak out about the subject.
Date: Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003 starting at 1:00pm, and ends on Sunday, Oct. 5 at 5:30pm
It’s an all girls’ conference led by Pan Asian girls. Come and share your experiences, insight, opinions, and ideas about preventing sexual violence and gender inequality in our culture.
If you are of Asian descent, between the ages of 12 and 18, want to meet new friends with similar interests, have meaningful discussions and have fun with them, then this conference is for you.
The conference will include two days of fun activities, social events, and workshops based on preventing sexual violence and gender inequality. Included will be all meals and an overnight stay.
We believe these issues to be very important to our culture, community, and the female generation of today and the future. Please join us!
